#12 Free Jewish education in Israel

In the USA, tuition for Jewish schools is soaring to fees of $20,000 to $30,000 and higher per child per year and there is no end in site. Jewish education, which has always been a cornerstone of a Jewish community is now become difficult for all but the rich. Aliyah has become attractive for young families with kids, because Olim know that they can ensure their children receive a quality Jewish education without the need to ask for a subsidy or loans. In fact, many Olim are actually very happy with the choices they have in Jewish education. Today, free Jewish education in Israel has gone beyond the traditional format for schools and in Israel, it is not uncommon to find schools that teach Torah and science or the arts.

Public elementary school is free, but parents are usually asked to pay a nominal fee for events and outings (about $75 per year). Specialized, private and semi-private high schools charge a nominal tuition, but it is  a fraction of what parents pay for schools in the USA and Canada.

Israel places a priority of education, from a young age up to college.

According to a report from I24.tv,:

In 2018, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD, placed Israel as the third most educated country worldwide, only below Canada and Japan. “In Israel, 88 percent of adults aged 25-64 have completed upper secondary education, higher than the OECD average of 79 percent,” the OECD found.
